WIP Wednesday: Learning to Knit Socks!

Bonnie June 13, 2012 8

I’ve been so inspired by all the socks I’ve seen on Tami’s Ami’s blog, that I decided it was time to learn. Plus I started working out at a crossfit gym, and tube socks are seen quite frequently on deadlift days, so I know I’ll get good use out of a pair of long hand-knit socks.

I joined the “Sock Knitter’s Anonymous” group on Ravelry, and a lot of the folks there learned from “Silver’s Sock Class“, which is a free online tutorial for learning sock knitting. So far I’ve had to supplement a little with you tube videos on joining the round with double pointed needles, but after the first couple rows I started picking up speed. It actually took me 2 nights just to get the first few rounds done. My boyfriend, seeing my progress, commented that I would be knitting these socks “the rest of my natural life.” It was pretty funny, since that’s exactly how it felt. I managed to get a couple inches done last night. The pic is as of this morning.

You are doing great. You’ll be addicted to socks in no time!

It looks like they’re coming along beautifully! Just wait and see, you’ll be done in no time. And the next few pairs will have to be more and more complicated… and then you’ll want to try them toe-up, two at a time and whatnot. :-)

Love. Those. Stripes.  Echoing what everyone else said, they’ll get loads faster as you go along.  Have fun, you’re about to catch the sock bug!  :)
